We are thrilled to partner with Birchall Tea! Their award-winning speciality and everyday black teas are sourced exclusively from estates across East Africa. This family run business has operated since 1872. We are very excited to combine our passions together to offer the highest quality tea and coffee for everyone!
The History of Birchall
The origins start with Captain Birchall George Graham. He was posted to India as an officer with the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment where he served admirably for a number of years.
“Birchall planted his first tea bushes in early spring of 1872.”
The present generation of the Graham family continues to trade tea across international market. The youngest members, Daniel & Tresham, represent the fifth generation. The company is based in London and has extensive interests in East Africa, including trading offices and a 62,000 sq/ft tea factory in Mombasa, Kenya.
“Today, we are one of the largest exporters of black teas from East Africa in the world.”
East Africa’s Finest Tea
Birchall source their blended and single origin black teas exclusively from the finest tea estates across East Africa. These range from Rwanda through to the Great Rift Valley in Kenya, where the very best teas are to be found.
In this part of the world, tea bushes grow more slowly. Africa provides lush volcanic soil and ideal conditions, giving the tea leaves greater flavour before they are individually hand-picked for quality. The result is a cup of tea that is bright, delicious and bursting with full flavour.
The Great Rift Breakfast Blend is most certainly one to try. It is a deliciously strong breakfast tea bursting with flavour and a winner at the Great Taste Awards for 8 years in a row. Birchall Great Rift Tea is a unique English Breakfast blend, produced through five generations of Birchall Graham’s family.
